Heritage in Conflict / Heritage of Conflict
The Winter School: Heritage Conflict/Heritage of Conflict is addressed to PhD candidates at all of the Una Europa universities, Una–Her–Doc Program and PhD candidates of the Doctoral School in the Humanities and the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences at Jagiellonian University.
The event will take place from 27.11.2023 to 01.12.2023 at the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences and the Doctoral School in the Humanities of the Jagiellonian University premises.
The Critical Heritage Studies Hub (CHSH) flagship project leads the Winter School in cooperation with the JU Doctoral School in the Humanities and the JU Doctoral School in the Social Sciences in collaboration with Una Europa.
The Winter School is dedicated to the issues of heritage in conflict and heritage of conflict, considering four key aspects: heritage and types of conflicts, ways to preserve heritage before, during and after war conflicts, securing heritage and documenting it using digital tools, and challenges arising from the sustainable use and management of post–conflict sites for social, economic, and cultural purposes.
Therefore, the goal of the School is to provide the participants with the knowledge and competencies necessary to conduct research and analysis on types of conflicts in heritage, the legal aspects of heritage protection, the role heritage digitizing and conflict documenting institutions in heritage protection and safeguarding, as well as developing tourism infrastructure that promotes the site's cultural and historical value.
The activities during the five–day event will be organized in the form of lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and one–to–one seminars, as well as study visits during which the participants will gain essential competencies and skills neces- sary to conduct research on the issues of heritage in a situation of dynamic social, legal and technological changes taking place around the world. The classes will be conducted by recognized experts, practitioners and scholars with extensive experience and competence.
