DIOGENES - inauguration

The DIOGENES (Digital Network of European Legal Historians) networking group will be officially inaugurated at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, from 12.10-13.10. 2023.

The group aims to create a virtual, international networking group for PhD students and young post-docs. A series of initiatives are planned, including the periodic organisation of webinars, seminars or virtual (scientific) coffee breaks.

During the conference, the following topics will be presented as part of individual panels:

  • "Publish or Perish in Legal History" (Representatives from the universities of Cologne, Münster, Maastricht, Madrid, Helsinki, and London will participate in the discussion).
  • "Legal History across the Atlantic Ocean" (Representatives from the universities of Trnava, Riverside, Oregon, and Georgia will participate in the discussion)
  • "Legal history and the ERC" ( Representatives from the universities of Augsburg, and Passau will participate in the discussion)
  • "Archival law and legal history research" (Representatives from the universities of Jena, Krakow, Oslo, and Frankfurt will participate in the discussion).

Guests of the conference are leading representatives from prestigious academic centres from Europe and the United States.

In addition, participants will be able to take part in dedicated networking sessions on various aspects of setting up international cooperation and defining goals for the further development of the group, which will also provide an excellent opportunity to integrate members of the Diogenes Group.  Participation in the event has been confirmed by more than 50 people, representing the various academic centres from Austria, England, Slovenia, Lowa, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Sweden, among others.

The conference is funded by the Critical Heritage Studies Hub flagship project at Jagiellonian University.
